The complete condo renovation in Brookline, MA was featured on a This Old House episode, “Old and New in Harmony.”
The older-style two-family house consisted of small, choppy rooms that were confining. Removing walls and reconfiguring the layout produced rooms that were much more functional. The white oak modern kitchen cabinets, island and La Contina doors are all 16ft in length, running perfectly parallel to each other. Trade ceilings were added between the kitchen and the new custom deck.
The homeowners were set on keeping a tree that sat inside the radius of the proposed deck. As a result, a hole was cut into the decking so the tree could remain in place. The panel surrounding the tree can be removed in case it needs to be accessed.
Additionally, the bathrooms of the condo were remodeled.
